“Mikansei Fighter” brings Roa (CV: Mizuki Chiba) and Shio (CV: Yoshiki Nakajima) with an exciting sound.

This excitement comes firstly from its fast tempo and then from how the song follows a tried and true composition that is commonly used in the songs featured in action/hero series in Japan.

The beat is fast-paced, for the most part bringing a bit of drum and bass to the spotlight (however only in the verses). As the song progresses, live drums make their entrance, and a lot of power to this performance.

In the background, you will find strings in full blast, giving a “heroic” vibe to this song, and heightening the whole concept behind this song.

Guitars scream their way since the intro, something that really adds to the drama and urgency in the composition.

As the song reaches the chorus you will find yourself in the middle of a song that could – easily – be the theme song to a series with a hero theme (basically a Sentai series). It has had that excitement and relentless energy since the very start. The composition only takes a breather when the song ends. It goes to show how full-throttle it goes.

If this type of upbeat, inspiring song is your thing, you’ll certainly find a lot of enjoyment in this song.

And even if you are like myself – not a fan of Sentai series -, this song will still prove to be quite entertaining, overflowing with energy, and with a really good performance by Nakajima and Chiba to top it all off.

Of course, taking into account previous releases by pioniX, this is a far different style of song. Still don’t let that put you off from checking this song out.

On my end, while the song is entertaining, it certainly lacks replay value. There isn’t much depth to the composition – then again, it’s not required – and the concept of the song is not as polyvalent as previous ones, making this song a really specific one that you won’t want to listen to all the time (unless you need an energy boost, in that case, you will have more than enough energy coming from this song!).

Far from perfect but entertaining, this first entry in the XX series shows that fans may all be in for quite a few surprises coming from these shuffle duos.
