Track by track analysis (instrumental not reviewed):
2 – 微炭酸アドレセンス (Lightly carbonated adolescence)
The vibes are good, the bassline deep and groovy as a fancy piano melody hits the background, adding a stylish touch to this song. In the background, funky guitars and brass make this song an addictive, loungy pop tune.
The verses have a simple beat and piano melody leading the way, leaving the stage for the smooth vocals of Tasuku Hatanaka and Daiki Yamashita to shine. I love how their voices harmonize, especially when the chorus kicks in.
And can we talk about the overdriven guitar solo playing on top of this groovy pop tune? Because it is a long solo that fits perfectly with this song and fades away seamlessly, leading to the last pre-chorus into a funky final chorus.
Everything about this song is super fun, mature, and stylish, checking all the boxes for me.
3 – Let’s take2!!
“Let’s take2!!” Is massive, bringing a mysterious tone in the intro but quickly having the bass take over – and the bass work in this song is off the charts – and giving it a groovy touch. Somehow, this song brings the dramatic flair that Hatanaka usually has in his songs into this one, being complemented by a groovier sound that veers it towards a fun pop sound.
I love the jaunty piano melody leading the way in the verses, then being complemented by the brass, slowly building up to deep electric guitar riffs and increasingly more dramatic drums into the chorus.
The song features a really cool – yet brief – piano section that mixes the drama in the instrumental with the excitement in the vocals. I wanted it to be longer, alas, it isn’t.
When you wrap up listening to this song, you’ll feel that this song belongs as a theme song for an anime or sentai series. It has that quality in itself.
4 – harmonious
Loungy synths and a groovy bassline create a laidback soundscape in “harmonious”.
Once again, the vibes are mature and stylish from the very first note, leading up to the funky guitar riffs and a warm, simple beat. The bassline is massive yet again, being the heart of this song as the vocals elevate it with a smooth, gentle delivery.
Can we talk about this chorus? Because this is insanely good. Especially bringing a shamisen to play alongside the funky guitar riffs – quite possibly the first time I’ve heard a loungy song that brought shamisen to play in such a groovy song.
But that’s not the full extent of the surprises waiting for you. During the second verse, a shakuhachi plays softly in the background, and when you get to the bridge, you’re presented with a full-on matsuri type of instrumental – taiko drums, shakuhachi, shamisen – topped with fireworks.
This song is, easily, one of the highlights in this release, and I love the composition – especially that chorus, it’s a thing of beauty.
5 – Go ahead!
And we wrap up with “Go ahead!”, song that brings to the spotlight a rock sound led by the bass drum and bright piano. The tone is hopeful with an excitable undertone in the first verse, slowly morphing into a peppy chorus in which the bassline goes crazy, contrasting with the brass playing in the background.
The chorus is brief but a ton of fun, with the vocals and piano shining throughout, leading to the second verse in which the drums start focusing on the toms, making the instrumental sound lower in key, which provides the perfect contrast to Daiki Yamashita and Tasuku Hatanaka’s higher-toned vocals.
The bridge further fleshes out that hopeful vibe in the intro, leaving the soundscape fairly simple, with the drums pushing everything forward until the vocals and piano section raise the tension in the last chorus.
As far as the vocals go, the duo is performing spectacularly well in this song, smoothly, almost gliding, through the lyrics, riffing and playing off each other’s vocals to make the song memorable in this release.
What a way to wrap up this release!
Final considerations
This is a match made in heaven with two of the best and most complete vocals among male seiyuu – who happen to have extremely underrated solo careers.
As a fan of both, I’m so happy that not only did they collaborate, but their voices immediately fit well together – both are very skilled tenors – and the songs crafted for them made their voices shine with a mature, fun ,and groovy sound that stays with you.
This release is perfect for summer – with those vibes being particularly strong in “Lightly carbonated adolescence” and “harmonious” – filled with danceable, bass-driven tunes that make you either want to lounge around and relax, or hit the dancefloor and have a ton of fun.
“Let’s take2!!” Was the only song that didn’t click with me as well as the others did, but it is still a really enjoyable one, especially if you like a little drama and mystery in your music.
As a whole, “Share” is a collaboration mini-album with a lot of quality. No gimmicks, just pure focus on two of the most complete and technical singers among male seiyuu, versatile as heck, and with an impressive vocal range. With a collection of mature, fun songs, the duo shows that they deserve all the attention and more. If you haven’t checked this release yet, this is your call to do it.
