Continuing with Funky Summer Jams we have yet another 5 tracks, that are as good as the last edition’s. This time we have different artists and some fresh songs perfect for the theme of this month. So without any further ado let’s get this Monthly Whisper started.

                         Kenji Nojima

ALBUM Vitamin Z GREATEST HITS Character CD
RELEASE DATE February 3, 2010
TRACK Devil

A fresh addition to this Monthly Whisper is Kenji Nojima, a often not remembered seiyuu that has a perfect vibrato so we have to expect good things from him. The first thing you’ll notice in this track is that its jazzy genre and funky guitar, are really good and that Kenji didn’t lose the spotlight even with an amazing instrumental. And I mean the whole instrumental is really awesome, but it really is complemented by his vocal performance, the best part in Devil is definitely the chorus, and let’s be honest, apart from the instrumental the only thing you can listen in Kenji using his spectacular vibrato. This track is one of those that has a simple instrumental, but it was so well composed that it really doesn’t need anything more to it.

                           KamiYu

ALBUM Karneval ED single
RELEASE DATE May 15, 2013
TRACK Reason

This track really makes us think of summer. The funky guitar, the synths and the piano in the background really make this song into a really happy track. Also the way Kamiya and Miyu are singing really helps the whole song get put together. The bass is also a good element that helps bring out the whole funky vibe alongside the guitar. The chorus is really good with the synths but it really is the outro that has the best instrumental that makes Reason a track worth being in this Monthly Whisper. Like all the other tracks in this top, we have a really Summer-like instrumental that turn them perfect for the season.

                      Elekiter Roundφ

ALBUM 狂騒輪舞曲(Kyōsō rondo)
RELEASE DATE March 26, 2014
TRACK 月の砂漠のジプシー (Tsuki no sabaku no Gypsy)

Picking up one of the best tracks in this top, we have the duo of Satoshi and Tachibana as Elekiter Roundφ. With an amazing acoustic guitar and shakuhachi we have 月の砂漠のジプシー that screams summer no matter how you look at it. The mix between the oriental and traditional elements and the acoustic guitar and that rasgueado, is simply heaven for everyone who listens to it. The instrumental is really awesome and simply with an amazing bass and those two elements that I already mentioned.  Also Tachibana and Satoshi are singing really well in this track, with a smooth voice not too exaggerated but not too soft.

                       Mamoru Miyano

ALBUM Break
RELEASE DATE March 11, 2009
TRACK いつか ( Itsuka)

This track brings us to a Mamoru Miyano from the past, a little more on the R&b genre. This laid-back song has an instrumental that makes いつか worth being in this top and also makes it an unforgettable song despite the time passing. Although the instrumental is simple the whole track is funky in itself, and also like 月の砂漠のジプシー from Elekiter Roundφ we have a mix between traditional elements and modern ones. In both of these song the mix was well done and actually worked really good. In this track you really have the percussion and and shamisen that really are complemented by the bass.

                             Trignal

ALBUM so funny
RELEASE DATE April 16, 2014
TRACK 愛しさのコントラスト(Itoshisa no Contrast)

A funky song trough and trough, 愛しさのコントラスト from Trignal is a “must”. The guitar and the bass are definitely the main focus of this tracks instrumental. Although this song is slightly more slow-paced it still has that summer and funkiness in it. The synths are also helpful for adding that little extra to the instrumental, and overall this track is a little different from all the other in this top, but that doesn’t change the fact that this track is also a funky summer jam. This track is good, starting with the instrumental and ending with their vocal performance. I mean when you listen to this track the instrument that really stands out is the bass,  that is if you listen with some attention.

With this we end,yet another Monthly Whisper. I hope you liked this two-parted edition, and hopefully you’ll also enjoy next month’s so look forward for that.
