[UPDATED] AVEX ban: Who are the artists affected by this measure?

We reported today that AVEX pictures (AVEX branch company) had instructed all online retailers to stop selling their goods to overseas fans. Hours later more information has come to light.

No artists from the AVEX music branch will be affected – at least that’s what we can understand from what Jpopasia stated upon talking with reps. That means that the affilliated record labels under AVEX won’t be affected by this ban. It seems like GACKT is off the hook for now, being able to release music available for international fans.

But this also means that the ban will be effective to AVEX Pictures artists and anime. So Wataru Hatano and Yutaku II, that are releasing music under AVEX pictures rather than with the main branch AVEX music, are banned from exporting their music. Same can be said about “Yuri!!! On Ice” and all the other anime titles we’ve advanced earlier today.

The fact that only AVEX Pictures artists are the only one affected further supports the idea of this being a counter piracy policy from the main branch.

THE HAND THAT FEEDS HQ editoral opinion:

Now that we were further enlightened about what was the affected branch in the middle of this mess, we can only express our frustration as we see a powerful artist such as Wataru Hatano being completely blocked from exporting his music. The same can be said about Yutaku II. With that being said, we’ll halt all reviews from both artists starting from today.

We’ll continue to support them by reporting their news but we won’t review any of their releases.
