Track by track analysis:

1 – ange dêchu

An infectious bass line adds a groovy layer to this song. Easily ranked as one of the most unique songs in this series, ange dêchu makes a smart use of funky guitar riffs, bells, 80s/90s inspired synths and groovy bass lines to deliver a danceable that does not go overboard with its excitement and electronica. Straying away from this sound enable the vocals to sound more alluring and mature.

Shouta Aoi matches the alluring vibe that is exuded by the instrumental and takes it a step forward with a stunning performance filled with ad-libs and a smooth falsetto. 5/5

2 – Parco

パルコ (Parco) follows the same tone. This ballad, with a sound and vibe that is commonly found in Marginal #4’s repertoire, is the only song that is common to all releases in the GALACTI9★SONG CD series. A delicate piano and strings melodies set the tone for this gentle ballad. Slow paced, bass-drum drums, melancholic guitar riffs and a noticeable bass line add the final touches to this instrumental. A nice touch – that might go unnoticed – is the rhodes piano melody play in the verses, enhancing the song’s melancholic tone. The pacing is deliberately slow, leaving the way open for vocals to shine. Shouta Aoi‘s take on Parco brings out more on the emotional spectrum that many of the previous performances did. Gentle and emotional, this is one of the best takes on this song. 5/5

Final rating:5 stars

The penultimate entry in the GALACTI9★SONG Series features Unicorn Jr.‘s Tsubasa Shindo (Shouta Aoi).

Up until now, songs in this series had explored different or personal sides to each character. As a result, we’ve had rock, pop, ballads, dance and R&B in what is a breath of fresh air in a franchise that is already 6 years old and has struggled a bit with maintaining its status as a good, consistent project.

Tsubasa Shindo‘s entry adds an extra layer of quality to what has been a surprisingly consistent series of releases filled with surprises. ange dêchu is one of the best songs in this series, bringing funk to this project and exploring it in a new way within this franchise. Parco is the song that most fans of the franchise – provided they have followed this series from the start or caught up at some point – a song that is already known. The nuances in the vocal department were what made this song, in some way, stand out at times. Aoi‘s performance made it stand out, making great use of his technique to deliver an emotional, wholesome experience for the listener.

As a whole, this release is among the best from this series and features a song that is, in our opinion, highly ranked with the Marginal #4 franchise.
