With inspiring lyrics, a sweet instrumental and KENN‘s top tier honeyed vocals, “Four Leaf Ring” is easily one of the best songs in the “12 SONGS GIFT” series.

For those that have been out of the loop: “12 Songs Gift” is a series of solo songs that started being released in this past January. A total of 12 singles, one for each member of IDOLiSH7TRIGGER and Re:vale, are scheduled to be released throughout the year. The solo songs releases coincide with the character’s birthdays.

Track analysis:

1 – Four Leaf Ring

Four Leaf Ring” breaks away from 12 SONGS GIFT‘s streak of ballads, delivering an upbeat, inspiring pop song. The instrumental mixes delicate elements with a strong vocal performance to deliver the best song so far in this solo song series.

We find soothing synth pads setting a summery vibe at the same time that strings add a delicate touch to this instrumental.

Playful piano and synth melodies play in the background alongside a simple, washy beat and a funky bass line. The song’s pace is rather comfortable, making this pop tune all the more enjoyable for the listener.

I felt that this instrumental played well with its instruments, ending up delivering a song that perfectly encompasses Tamaki’s personality – powerful but passionate and warm deep down. For those that know the storyline behind the character, the lyrics will make a lot of sense.

Now, if there’s one thing that is common sense among the franchise’s fans is that KENN is easily one of the best vocalists in IDOLiSH7. He’s owner of unique smoky and honeyed vocals that instantly make his performances enjoyable, on top of that, he’s got a perfected singing technique that few seiyuu within IDOLiSH7, can rival. His performance in “Four Leaf Ring” is engaging and lively, capturing the listener’s attention as soon as he tackles the first notes. In the end, KENN delivers a strong, melodic performance that fits well the instrumental’s groove, embraces the story behind the lyrics and envelops the listener in a warm vibe. It is a performance filled with flair and gentleness.

Setting a different pace and exuding a brighter, sweeter mood, Tamaki Yotsuba’s “Four Leaf Ring” is one of the best songs released so far in the 12 SONGS GIFT series.

This song is available for purchase on Online music stores (for overseas fans it’s available on iTunes).
