restart series 06 solids

Title: SQ RE:START series vol.6 SolidS
Label: Tsukipro/Movic
Release date: 26/07/2019
Genre: Electronica

Tracklist:

1 - I AM A BARTENDER
2 - I AM A BARTENDER -off vocal-

Track analysis:

1 – I AM A BARTENDER challenges SolidS‘ barriers. The group approaches this 6th release going all out in electronica, putting dirty, ravey synths in the spotlight. The lead synth line makes an impact within its first notes, setting a slow, dark pace to this song. Gated and overdriven guitar riffs are joined by a simple clap track + bass drum combo, creating a never-before listened to soundscape from this talented quartet. The group’s trademark alluring vibe is still very present in this song.

While the instrumental might take a bit to get used to, due to how challenging and different it is from the group’s trademark sound, the song ends up in your head, with each phrase and beat made to enthrall the listener.

The addictive, party-driven instrumental and the smooth vocals, that coat this song in a suggestive vibe, make it impossible to not be ensnared in it. Individual vocals go low for this song with the tenor duo, Soma Saito and Natsuki Hanae, bringing their A game in a lower register than usual. The baritone duo, Takuya Eguchi and Yuichiro Umehara, contribute to the song’s imposing aura with powerful, warm low tones. Top marks for Saito and Hanae’s smooth falsetto before the outro, adding the final touches to what is another hit song for this quartet.

This time around SolidS‘ went completely out of the box to deliver a song that, despite being a completely novelty in their repertoire, still captures their passionate and powerful vibe.

Final rating: 5 stars
