SOARA‘s second entry in the RE:START series embraced funk-rock to deliver one of the best and most entertaining performances in the series.

“Round About” is a funky-rock tune that embraces a classic 80’s funk-rock vibe. Between playful guitar licks, a funky bass line, dreamy synths, a barely noticeable 8-bit synth melody, simple snare-y drums, brass and minimalistic strings, this song welcomes the listener into a laidback, summer-y soundscape filled with danceable rhythms and powerful vocals.
SOARA‘s second take on the RE:START series has Makoto Furukawa, Chiharu Sawashiro and Taishi Murata in charge of the vocals. This trio presented an interesting dynamic with completely different voice colors painting this funky rock tune in a vibrant and melodic way. Individually, we need to mention that, although there’s no set center for this performance – lines were distributed equally -, Makoto Furukawa took the wheel with a stunning performance. He is, undoubtedly, a force to be reckoned with on the vocal end. His warm vibrato, smooth falsetto and his charisma impress once again. Taishi Murata gets his opportunity to shine and he made the best out of it. His falsetto stands out when harmonizing with Furukawa and Sawashiro, he’s also a solid singer that fits well with a funky instrumental. Chiharu Sawashiro did a little bit of everything, singing, rapping (or you can call it “fast talking”) adding a bit of vibrato but struggle a bit with his falsetto. As a whole, the trio harmonized well and showed great chemistry, making this performance the most memorable – so far – on SOARA‘s side.
“Round About” is the perfect summer tune, laidback, funky and fun while being extremely contained about how to express that “fun”. A stunning entry in the RE:START series.
