1 – ねてないピエロ
SOARA are back with a new entry in the RE:START series. ねてないピエロ (Netenai Pierrot) explores the group’s main theme “Theme Park” in a fancy way, this time around taking the listener to a soundscape filled with upbeat, warm rhythms, jazzy guitar riffs, groovy contrabass, classy organ and playful brass melodies. The song is mostly uptempo, matching the instrumental’s upbeat, playful vibe, however there are still plenty of tempo changes that spice up this song. This instrumental gives us a taste of the timeless 20’s/30’s big band, swing music. The chorus is addictive, pulling the listener in to follow the catchy lyrics and its chants.
However, it’s the bridge that shines the most. Everything in that section is ear-catching. The instrumental goes all out jazz/swing and brings the contrabass to the spotlight, fancy piano and organ melodies lead the way while bass-driven drums set a comfortable tone to this section. Vocals are particularly off the charts in this section.
Toyonaga, Sawashiro and Murata delivered one of the most unique performances found in SOARA‘s repertoire. They put their best on the table and delivered an impressive performance filled with ad-libs – mostly courtesy of Toshiyuki Toyonaga -, fancy high notes, sweet harmonies, groovy solo and group parts. Although their performance was flawless, it it was in the bridge that they went all in and impressed us. Their vocals breathe life into the listener, making it impossible not to sing along and jam to this song. The listener will want to join in the fun while listening to this song.
ねてないピエロ (Netenai Pierrot) is another fresh, unique addition to SOARA’s repertoire, one that explores music genres and sonorities that had never been explored before in their career or, at least, to this extent. This is also a song that shows the group’s maturity while still having that upbeat, youthful vibe that has been their trademark since debut.
SOARA once more don’t shy away from impressing in this RE:START series. This single showed the group’s versatility and quality on both ends of the spectrum – vocals and instrumentals. A must listen.
