TOKYO COLOR SONIC!! "If"
Title: TOKYO COLOR SONIC!! Growing ENDING
Label: eternal voyage
Release date: 27/01/2023
Genre: Rock Ballad

Tracklist:

6 - If

Track analysis:

6 – If

To wrap up the 2nd CD series TOKYO COLOR SONIC!!’s Arashi (CV: Shoya Chiba), Towa (CV: Gakuto Kajiwara), Kaori (CV: Shunsuke Takeuchi), Tomoe (CV: Yuya Hirose) and Iori (CV: Soma Saito) team up to perform “If“.

In a change in tone, this song starts off as a ballad, with a delicate piano melody leading the way as solemn strings join in to add a layer of beauty to the soundscape.

The first verse is quiet and emotional, leaving the spotlight on the vocals, each member takes turns before arriving at the dramatic chorus.

The chorus brings in acoustic and electric guitars as well as warm, bassy drums and a punchy bassline to the mix, taking this song to full-on rock ballad territory.

This time around is worth mentioning that the mixing is so well done that the drums are clear, the acoustic guitars are gentle, the drums have their place on the soundstage and then the strings don’t muffle anyone. The vocals are as clean and clear as day.

“If” ends up shining a lot in this chorus due to how powerful it is on the vocal not to forget the mixing that is tasteful throughout.

When it comes to the vocals, each member has their time in the spotlight, taking turns in the first verse. However, things change from that point on.

We have two teams on the vocal end: Shunsuke Takeuchi and Soma Saito and, on the other end, Shoya Chiba, Gakuto Kajiwara, and Yuya Hirose. These teams are quite important throughout the performance, especially as the second verse kicks in.

Starting from the 2nd verse, listeners get brief duets. Takeuchi opens that verse with Saito and it is stunning what happens as they harmonize. It gets even more amazing when Chiba, Kajiwara, and Hirose team up. And then when all perform the chorus together it is beautiful.

The emotion in this performance culminating with the tension-soaring instrumental will leave a mark.

All in all, “If” is a fantastic wrap-up to a 2nd season of CDs that was filled with highlights and a lot of growth on the vocals and instrumentals sides.
