TOKYO COLOR SONIC!! "Grow up!!"

Track analysis:

6 – Grow up!!

Slowly building up the tension with high-tension synths, “Grow up!!” opens the doors to what is a dreamy tune.

Despite the intense intro, the verses make the best of atmospheric synths on top of a minimalistic instrumental made for the vocals to shine.

The chorus raises the tension yet again, however, contrary to previous songs in the franchise, it is not as overwhelming to the vocals, leaving just enough space available for everyone to give their best in this performance

You will find yourself singing along to the chorus by the second time it comes in, something that attests to just how addictive this song is while having such a simple instrumental.

With a pulsating baseline and a breathy atmosphere, each member takes turns in performing this song, smoothly and slowly taking those.

Expect both clean singing in the very first part of the song as well as rapping just before the bridge.

The addition of Yuya Hirose on the vocal end is quite interesting. He arrives to complement the tenor side of TOKYO COLOR SONIC’s lineup, harmonizing with Soma Saito and Shoya Chiba while bringing a smoother edge to the group’s performances.

Now, one of the big issues the franchise had been tackling was the mixing of their songs.

This time around, the mixing or, should I say, the composition was made in a way that the vocals, no matter the mixing, would sound clean and clear at all times. When the time came for the mixing, the song was pretty much as clean as you get in here.

This is something that, in my opinion, raised the enjoyment of listening to “Grow up!!” in comparison to “Begin on Buddy“.

The franchise kicks off its “Growing” CD series in a really strong way with TOKYO COLOR SONIC!!’s “Grow up!!”.

REVIEW OVERVIEW

Grow up!!

SUMMARY

"Grow up!!" raises the quality in the TOKYO COLOR SONIC!! franchise, polishing areas in which it was failing in previous releases while showcasing how the group's - and franchise's - new dynamic works. Yuya Hirose fits right in with the group, adding more power to the "tenor" side of the lineup - with Shoya Chiba and Soma Saito - while being a perfect bridge with the baritones and bass members within the group. "Grow up!!" goes more towards a simpler EDM sound that is dreamy and hopeful in tone, putting a smile on your face while making you want to sing along to it. Strong kick off to a promising new CD series.
