Track by track analysis:

1 – WORLD’S ENDING WALKER

A dirty bassline punches its way through the instrumental, leading the way in “WORLD’S ENDING WALKER”.

A shredding electric guitar smoothly arrives soloing in the intro, cranking up the excitement in this song, preparing the stage for (2)You (CV: Natsuki Hanae) to charismatically power his way through this song.

I find it quite interesting the influences of drum & bass in the drums – those are minimal – noticeable in the crazy rhythm and speed in the hi-hat throughout the verses. That adds even more energy to a song that is explosive from start to finish.

The pre-chorus slows down quite a bit the tempo, although in the background you will still notice the fast hi-hat rhythm going on, adding a layer of urgency to this tune.

When the chorus arrives you’re dragged into one of the most passionate choruses in the band’s story so far. You’ll find yourself singing along to this one in no time.

On the vocal end, there are a couple of different things going on.

While you will find (2)You’s trademark comfortable mid-tones – with a bit of a raspy edge – you’ll also find plenty of long notes, chants, and screams in what is one of the rowdiest songs in JET RAT FURY’s repertoire to date.

Fun, dirty, and groovy, this is a powerful introduction to this CD.

2 – 選択 (Sentaku)

And wrapping up this release we have “Sentaku” song that brings to the spotlight a completely different sound.

Atmospheric synths—dark, deep bass-driven ones—lead the way, briefly creating the backdrop to Natsuki Hanae’s vocals before the electric guitars join the instrumental.

And what follows is a surprisingly sweet song coming from JET RAT FURY, with (2)You openly confessing his love for his significant other (you, if you listen to the drama CDs).

The chorus is comfortable, with steady snary drums leading the way as a delicate synth melody plays in the background, adding a layer of gentleness to this song.

Let’s geek about the second verse? Because it’s unbelievably good, bringing back that atmospheric, dreamy sound from the intro but then shifting into a heavy intermission that stays with you.

And those drums? The work on the drums in this song is so much fun and there’s so much variety that it’ll keep you on your toes, anticipating the next change in tempo, tone, or style.

The intermission is heavy, muffling the vocals, with the guitars going for those lower, dirty guitar riffs as the bassline drops lower and lower.

This almost feels like the murkiness of not having clarity in one’s feelings – what was at the core of (2)You’s relationship with his significant other – but then, it is followed by the clearest bridge you can find.

The instrumental shows that clarity that he finally found in his feelings, perfectly tying up with his wish to be next to them and the choice being “theirs” not just one of them.

JET RAT FURY’s “WORLD’S ENDING WALKER” continues improving the band’s sound with another set of shredding rock tunes, heavier than usual which is a plus in my books.

One thing consistent across both songs is how dirty and heavy both songs are.

“WORLD’S ENDING WALKER” has the dirtiest and punchiest bassline so far in the band’s repertoire while “Sentaku” goes dark and dirty with its instrumental as the bassline and guitars go lower than usual.

Both songs have catchy choruses and there’s a whole lot of energy going on that will make you headbang to this song – other ways of enjoying the song are available, of course – and appreciate the bounce that both songs brought by putting the bassline at the forefront.

When it comes to the overall theme in this CD, and much in line with all the entries so far in the Headliner CD series, is love and openly proclaiming.

Those who follow the story in the drama CDs will know that (2)You can be quite extreme in the way he deals with people due to his trust issues and his relationship with his significant other – interestingly enough, his manager – has been quite rocky since the start with them dating and breaking up several times.

However, they both gravitate to each other and it leads to them being together even if their relationship is filled with unsolved trust issues.

That, of course, is solved throughout the various seasons of the drama parts and in this CD (2)You finally makes a big decision alongside his significant other, trusting in themselves as a couple, a massive sign of his growth as a character. And this can be felt in both songs on this CD.

The urgency and violence in “WORLD’S ENDING WALKER” and then the open, clear love confession in “Sentaku” show character development for (2)You in the most subtle ways.

As far as the vocals go, Natsuki Hanae has used us to his stellar, insanely steady, and powerful performances and that’s exactly what we get in this CD. It is worth mentioning that I love how tricky “WORLD’S ENDING WALKER” ended up being on the vocal ending with clean singing, muffled vocals, and then the legato and long scream by the end of the song. It’s quite an impactful performance with a lot of variety on the vocal end, tapping into a bit of the massive talent Natsuki Hanae has on the vocal end.

All in all, JET RAT FURY’s “WORLD’S ENDING WALKER” is one of the most cohesive entries in their repertoire, an open declaration of love, a well-deserved clarity in a relationship, and a rock-solid entry in the Headliner CD series.
