2 – Feelin!!!!

Now this is an interesting take on the bubbly pop vibe that Fun4re appears to have from their cover art alone.

Turns out the quartet is not all about pop – not even bubblegum pop – and is, instead, all about a fun pop-rock sound reminiscent of the early 00s.

The song kicks off with a fun pop-rock-inspired sound with overdriven guitars. The tempo is comfortable and the tone is playful, suiting the group.

The verses mix slow, skater-rock-inspired electric guitar riffs with a bubbly synth playing in the background serving as an interesting contrast in the instrumental.

The bassline goes a bit unnoticed but it is there in the background – a bit muffled for my taste, but still understandable as the main synth would have been buried instead.

The chorus of “Feelin!!!!is all about making you want to sing along, jump, and shout to the lyrics. When I say that the sound and even structure are quite reminiscent of the 00s pop-rock/skater-rock sound, I’m not kidding.

It’s fun and bubbly but not in excess – something I deeply appreciate – and it ends up going by in a flash – literally, the song is less than 3 minutes.

When it comes to the vocals, you will find TAIYO (CV: Reiou Tsuchida), MIO (CV: Kengo Kawanishi), FUTABA (CV: Ayumu Murase) and KAZU (CV: Tasuku Hatanaka).

The performance features an interesting mix of clean singing in the verses, a bit of rap by every member in the build-up to the chorus, and then… you have that unison, chant-driven chorus that will have you singing along in no time.

All in all, Fun4re’s “Feelin!!!!” is a fun tune that subverts yet again the concept of a group having to look “cute” and needing a bubblegum pop sound.

In this case, the talented quartet threw us all a curve ball and delivered an entertaining and extremely catchy pop-rock tune that you’ll be singing along for a while. Solid debut by a group that far exceeded my expectations!

VS AMBIVALENZ is a 2D music project by NIZISTA. Only 7 out of the 14 members were selected via fan voting from 2021 to late 2022. This was the very first time a 2D music project embraced such a format.

REVIEW OVERVIEW

Feelin!!!!

SUMMARY

Fun4re's debut single, "Feelin!!!!", caught me off guard with its vibrant early 2000s-inspired pop-rock sound, steering clear of bubblegum pop despite their colorful and bubbly image. The song's overdriven guitars, playful tone, and skater-rock-inspired riffs make for a catchy and nostalgic tune. The verses mix clean vocals with subtle synths, leading into a chant-driven chorus perfect for singing along. Vocals from TAIYO (Reiou Tsuchida), MIO (Kengo Kawanishi), FUTABA (Ayumu Murase), and KAZU (Tasuku Hatanaka) bring energy and versatility, incorporating rap elements and unison choruses that shine. "Feelin!!!!" is a short but sweet track that delivers unexpected charm and fun.
