Tracklist:

1 - Persona
2 - Persona (Off Vocal)

Track analysis:

1 – Persona

A dark poly synth – giving off a tropical vibe to “Persona” – plays on top of a simple beat, slowly making its way into the first verse. The vibe is intense however, the vocals arrive to give it a dash of beauty on top.

This duality – intensity and gentleness – stands out in the verse and will grab your attention. The song builds up seamlessly to the chorus, this time putting an emphasis on its underlying dreaming sound.

Now, the chorus had me jamming along as soon as that punchy bassline and finger snaps beat welcome the listener to the chorus. Slowly and overflowing confidence comes Wataru Komada performing a groovy chorus entirely in English (with a clear pronunciation).

This is an impressive performance by Wataru Komada, taking the lead and absolutely shining with a charismatic performance.

He is performing in a higher range than usual in the verses and slightly lowers the tone in the chorus, delivering a slightly nasal performance – a quirk of his – yet with a lot of control and confidence that will make you hit that replay button.

And let’s not forget that he is even going for ad-libs and R&B riffing in the pitch vocals. He really went all out with his performance and I enjoyed every moment of it.

Persona” arrives as both a surprising performance and groovy entry in The Way I Am CD series.
