Re:vale released their first single “SILVER SKY“. As one of the units part of the otome/rhythm game IDOLISH7‘s universe and after TRIGGER‘s impressive performances, fans have high expectations for this release and unit. Do them live up to the expectations?

Track by track analysis:
1 – SILVER SKY
“SILVER SKY” is impressive for its high throttle, danceable and deeply layered instrumental piece. With a powerful piano melody at its core, looping throughout the track, this song tries to spice things up lending the excitement of electronica, blending it with the easy listening pop lyrics. Incorporated in the middle of the electrifying instrumental we find delicate strings and powerful guitar riffs enriching the upbeat vocal performance delivered by Soichiro Hoshi and Shinnosuke Tachibana. 4.5/5
2 – Dis one.
With a rock edge “Dis one.” sheds a completely different light to this unit. Putting aside the heavy synths and complicated composition, this track goes for a whole band sound resorting to splashy drums, reverberating bass and ear catching guitar riffs to entertain the listener. The instrumental’s highlight lays with the shredding guitar solo that really won us over. Vocally this track seems to have more energy than the previous one – might be because both Hoshi and Tachibana are well versed in the genre – nevertheless, this performance was visibly stronger and more engaging than the previous one, in the end making justice to the strong instrumental. 5/5
Final rating:
This is an interesting unit that has opposing charms in their core. One minute you can listen to them on a shredding rock track, the other you can find them in on a full out dance pop track. Either way the unit seems to fit both music genres to a T. The instrumentals range from overlayered ones, in which it’s difficult to identify everything on it, to stripped down, simple rock instrumentals, in which there’s little to distract and it’s easy to enjoy every single element on it. Vocally, although initially this pair was a bit unusual for us – Tachibana being a tenor and Hoshi having a voice tone pending to tenor or more like baritenor – we expected loads of high notes in a daunting belting relay but not. The melodies begged for solid mid-toned performances and surprisingly, both delivered them well. Re:Vale join TRIGGER as another unit to look forward out of the Idolish7 universe.
