Track analysis:

1 – Because you are

Because you are was love on first listen. Washy synths, soothing synths pads and an incredibly simple piano melody lead the way into this dreamy EDM dance tune. From what we could tell after several listens, there’s virtually nothing done wrong on this instrumental.

The progression is done in such an impeccable and clean way. For those of you that might be fans of chill out music or just the simpler, cleaner and slower paced EDM, this song will be a treat. The slow paced verses, the simple yet effective instrumentalization – comprised mainly of dirty, bassy synths, a simple bassy beat and a looping piano melody – are more than enough to set the dreamy and danceable vibe we’re presented with. It’s the first time among Tsukino Production‘s units that a chill out EDM song is produced and released, and as expected from QUELL, they nailed this performance.

The instrumental’s tension and build up are done in such a way that it’s impossible not to get excited/hyped while listening to this song. This is not an heavy dancefloor oriented song as you can tell by our review, this is the kind of song that preserves QUELL‘s trademark dreamy, delicate and top tier powerful performances while keeping things simple in the instrumental department. This is the kind of EDM song that has an underlining “feel good” vibe.

The vocal performances are beyond impressive. QUELL deliver yet another top tier performance. The scale is high in the chorus and slightly lower on the verses. The chorus is basically led by Sho Nogami and Shugo Nakamura‘s high notes whereas shining in the verses and ad-libs we find the powerful baritone, Shunsuke Takeuchi. Koutaro Nishiyama is important on all fronts, adding not only a different color to all parts he performs, but also blending all tones together, he’s the middle ground for this group even if he still needs to catch up with his fellow group mates in terms of singing skills. Still, there was some improvement on Nishiyama‘s vocals, especially if we take into account his underwhelming performance for the X Lied series, released last month. Everyone upped their ante for this performance and we can’t help but be impressed with how it turned out in the end.

QUELL show their colors in an impressive way. This is not only a song that sets them apart from all Tsukino Production‘s units/groups, it serves as well to reinforce their status as 2017’s monster rookies among 2.5D units.

Because you are is another fantastic entry for QUELL.

Final rating:5 stars
