Track analysis:
1- Fiction
Shouta‘s powerful vocal performance alongside the acoustic guitar enchant anyone from the first few seconds into the track’s instrumental piece. Fiction‘s has an instrumental piece that incorporates the typical elements found in other tracks of the franchise, such as the violins and piano, this time around adding what sounds like a piccolo and marimbas in the background which give a slight summer vibe to the whole instrumental piece, and perhaps even a nostalgic hint. Yet, aside from that there is not much happening in the instrumental piece. Fiction, despite having some potential, is overall lacking character as there is no presence of the instruments associated to the characters, namely Ai’s synths or Reiji’s maracas.
About Shouta and Showtaro‘s vocal performance, Fiction is a track that not only laid the perfect stage for Shouta to melt everybody with his falsetto and sweet notes, but made us witness Showtaro working hard to keep up with the high notes Shouta has no problem whatsoever to sing. Granted, it is probably one of the first times we can listen to the Showtaro singing like this for one of this franchise’s songs.
