May was a month of long awaited comebacks, Best Of releases, a major debut, exciting projects and a whole lot of surprises. Filled with exciting pop and hip-hop releases, this is May’s Oricon Chart.

Knights “Ensemble Stars! Album series Knights“
Ensemble Stars‘ most popular group rose to the top of the charts with their first full-length album release. Knights sold an impressive number of copies of “Ensemble Stars! Album series Knights“ and snatched a surprising #4 on Oricon Weekly. during its first week of sales. However, for Oricon Monthly’s chart, Knights joined it with only one day of sales counting. With over 45.000 copies sold, Knights rose to #9 on Oricon Monthly’s May chart.

Buster Bros!!! VS MAD TRIGGER CREW
Hypnosis Mic‘s first ever release to be featured on Oricon Monthly is the electrifying match-up between Buster Bros!!! and MAD TRIGGER CREW. “Buster Bros!!! VS MAD TRIGGER CREW” outsold all Hypmic CDs released up until then with a surprising 23,207 copies sold in only two weeks. This album sits comfortably at #13.

MooNs “GO AROUND”
MooNs‘ best release to date is featured on Oricon Monthly despite its unusual low sales numbers. “GO AROUND” jumped to #8 during its first week of sales but soon left the top 50 spots, with poor sales numbers in the weeks following its release ultimately leading to the rank in which this album ended up in. By the end of May, “GO AROUND” had a bit over 7.600 copies sold, making this album sit at an underwhelming #43.

Tetsuya Kakihara “I for U”
Tetsuya Kakihara‘s second full-length album “I for U” quietly entered the Oricon Daily and Weekly charts. The album had a mild first week of sales with a bit over 6.000 copies sold, and immediately dropped from top 50 on Oricon Weekly. By the end of May, the album had just a bit over 7.000 copies sold which was more than enough to feature it at #46.

Kenichi Suzumura “Going my rail”
Kenichi Suzumura celebrated his 10th anniversary as a solo artist with the release of his first ever Best Of album “Going my rail“. This release filled with past hits, rearrangements and an exciting new song ranked #12 on Oricon Weekly but soon after disappeared from top 50. With a bit over 5.000 copies sold, “Going my rail” occupies #49 on Oricon Monthly’s May chart.

Shouta Aoi “Eclipse”
Shouta Aoi’s powerful single “Eclipse” not only impressed a lot of people, but it also topped the charts upon release. “Eclipse” debuted at #7 on Oricon Weekly, however sales slowed down and the single quickly left the charts after its initial hype. With 14,245 copies sold, “Eclipse” sits at a comfortable #25.

Yuma Uchida “NEW WORLD”
One of the most anticipated debuts in 2018 was certain Yuma Uchida‘s. The talented seiyuu made his major debut under KING RECORDS with the funky single “NEW WORLD“, and rose on Oricon Daily and Weekly to their top 10 spots. With only one day of sales counted for this chart and a total of 11,879 copies sold, “NEW WORLD” ranks at #31.

THE IDOLM@STER SideM WORLD TRE@SURE 01
To wrap up this Monthly Chart we find the first release of Idolmaster SideM‘s new shuffle seires, WORLD TRE@SURE. The first volume of this series managed to stay two weeks within top 50 until the hype died off and sales stagnated. With a bit over 11.000 copies sold, THE IDOLM@STER SideM WORLD TRE@SURE 01 sits at #34.
