2020 was supposed to be a big concert year for our beloved male seiyuu(s). Kinda sad that a lot of those got cancelled because of the virus but I’m glad that it opened up YouTube channels and videos that even international fans can digest. Glad that they’re opening up a bit and being creative with how they deliver to fans. I wonder if they know how popular they are outside of Japan and Asia?
I love Kamiyan but he’s really professional and private (not that it’s a bad thing) so it’s not like I can get other stuff from him other than DGS and his music. It’s not really like a personal interaction with Kamiyan (at least not like the more personal/one-on-one interactions that some seiyuu have on their YT channels) but I’ll take it over nothing any day!
The virus came to completely make a mess of this year.
In between all the cancellations and postponements, fans surprisingly got to be closer to their favorite male seiyuu, as many decided to open up a little bit – launching YouTube channels, making their music available for streaming worldwide, actually engaging with some on social media, etc.
There was some good coming from such an awful situation.
I sincerely hope that this is not just temporary but that male seiyuu, their talent agencies and or music labels understand the importance of opening up to all fans (but more specifically, to overseas fans).
There is a market out here – if their worries are about money – and there are fans out here – if their worry is that those male seiyuu are not loved overseas.
I believe some male seiyuu are aware of their popularity overseas. Either by attending conventions overseas, the fan mail their receive, comments made on their official videos in English… If they are not aware, certainly their talent agencies and managers are because they monitor those things.
I feel you, fans of seiyuu that are “private” about their lives or just veteran male seiyuu (that are not big fans of exposing themselves online) continued to be their quiet selves and we really just have to thank every scrap of content we get!
Thank you so much for your comment, @limmykihn.
Hope these brief – yet quirky – MOB performance videos managed to lighten your day, making you feel closer to Kamiyan! Also, hope you caught those Kiramune compilations that were released in the past month, there was some Kamiyan content in there.
Stay safe!
