Live us: Taking the 2D Project Formula Through a Dramatic Route

Live us

Human conflict, environmental issues, a voice that started it all. Live us takes the 2D project formula through a dramatic route.

Introduction

Live us is an original project mixed-media project following a dramatic story that will be fleshed out through voice dramas + music releases.

The project is an original idea by White palette, featuring character designs by bikku, world-building by Tetsuya Katsuzawa (Edge Works) and structure/organization by Rika Kihara.

Synopsis

The earth was devastated by abnormal warming and humans moved underground.
There was no room for entertainment, and AI played all of its roles in VR.
Of course, the music…

It’s been about 200 years since then.
When mankind returned to earth, an artist unearthed “The Legacy of the Past.
It’s about making music yourself and enjoying a real live performance.
Those who regained music went wild with joy.

Even so.

At some point, abnormal weather began to occur again.
At the place and time where the live performance is held.
The accident occurred and the reason was… a singing voice.

The live performance that killed many people is called “Tragedy Live.”
Since then, real live shows have been banned, and only VR live shows are allowed.

But was it really because of the live performance?
Was the live singing voice that made people so enthusiastic and excited that bad?
No, it’s not…!

Refrain

Young people are trying to get back to life again.
They set out to find out the truth.
Someday I’ll definitely have that enthusiasm–

Review | Shouta Aoi “Collage”

Shouta Aoi's "Collage" is, easily, one of the best albums of 2024. A show stealer of a statement mini-album that makes me want more and more from him.

SparQlew's "Dear" is a rock solid mini-album that emphasizes the group's growth at the same time that it dishes out yet another streak of fun, addictive rock and pop tunes.

Mamoru Miyano “DRESSING”

Mamoru Miyano's "Dressing" is a phenomenal single that takes him to neon-filled soundscape with synthwave, complementing it with a deeply emotional orchestral song to wrap it all up neatly in 2024.

  1. Gosh I’m so excited for this project! I’m so happy that Nozu (who needs more roles!) gets to be in another music project besides Hypmic and now he’ll be in a group with another fave— Horie Shun!! And with a kpop sounds too, it really keeps me on my toes. Hoping that it still becomes a success despite many other competition emerging recently ><

  2. Oh wow i think i’m gonna like it! R&B, electro-pop, k-pop inspired… I was really awaiting for these genres to appear in seiyuu projects, so i’m gonna keep an eye on this, plus the format is pretty unique as well. Design-wise i like TapeTum so far (yeah i know the “pastel neon twin brothers with electro sound” is an overused trope, but i always like it xD). Hope this project will be successful!

    • This is quite an eclectic project!
It was a matter of time – and especially after ZOOL and TRD’s K-pop-inspired CDs – until a 2D music project would end up embracing K-pop either as a concept or sound. I’m a bit reluctant about that because the current day k-pop sound is really not my thing (if it’s something from the early 10s/mid-10s and less EDM-y I’d be up for it).

For those that love heavy EDM music, this project may be the thing for them (I reckon you’ll enjoy it!).
I’m with you on that. TapeTum does bring that 2wink vibe to the spotlight while having a sort of Unicorn Jr. color scheme. What will really make that overused trope sound unique is the group’s dynamic, harmonies, and overall sound. Here’s to hoping they sound unique.

“Live us” is the 6th 2D music project announced in 2021 (This year is already packed!). Let’s see how it fares in the middle of the heavy competition of Tokyo Color Sonic! and Aoppella?!. I hope the music is good and the project sticks around!
