Track analysis:

01.Rainbow Stairway

Rainbow Stairway is an addictive song. The instrumental stands out for its unique sound that blends rock with pop, traditional Japanese music and electronica. The song has a simple progression but its shine is on the instrumentalization and the way each element came into play for this song. On one hand the listener has an exciting guitar riff or solo, the other the listener is enveloped in delicate, beautiful traditional Japanese melodies courtesy of the piano and strings. Electronica elements add final touches to the instrumental be it as fillers or transitions. Pop elements are found in the catchy lyrics and song structure. All these elements were put into place is such a crafty way that you’ll never found an overcrowded section in the instrumental and, instead, will have an entertaining listen.

On the vocal end Wataru Komada and Tomoyasu Hishiba showcase their contrasting vocals. Komada is more intense in his performance, at times performing with a musical, dramatic touch to it whereas Hishiba has a sweeter, smoother singing tone that serves as a good balance within the group. Regardless if you’re listening to the verses or the chorus, both made sure to deliver a performance as exciting and fancy as the instrumental.

When listening to this song it is noticeable the quality and talent within this duo. All that’s left is for Jin & Akiomi to release a full length album so that we can get more of these exciting tunes and fancy performances. As it is, Rainbow Stairway is one of the top 10 best songs released this year by Ensemble Stars!’ groups.
