Track by track analysis:
1 – My pen light, smile
My pen light, smile is a slow-paced song that explores the traditional melodies of Thailand. For this song there is a focus on the sitar, instrument leading the way with a lullabyish melody that envelops the minimalist instrumental.
Taku Yashiro, Daiki Hamano, Kouhei Amasaki, and Yutaka Baletta deliver a delicate performance to this slow-paced and sweet tune. 5/5
2 – MEET THE WORLD! (Thailand Ver.)
Built around a playful piano melody and groovy bass line, MEET THE WORLD! takes pride in its upbeat and danceable sound. Atmospheric synths, strings, and simple bass-driven drums add the finishing touches to this instrumental, creating an addictive and, at the same time, inspiring sound.
Paying close attention to this song, it actually sounds like a throwback 80’s pop tune – mainly due to its piano melody.
The Thailand team puts their talents to the test and delivers a sweet performance with a bit of energy in the mix. Solid vocal performance by all members. 5/5
Final rating:
The 10th entry in the WORLD TRE@SURE series explores the quiet side of Thailand.
Although one might think that all traditional Thai music is upbeat and eventful, it is quite interesting that this franchise opted for a quieter take on Thailand’s traditional sound.
The instrumental is well paced, with smooth transitions between verses and choruses and, instead of overcrowding the song with traditional instruments, opted for going for a single one that would, for sure, remind listeners of the country being represented in this release – we are talking about the sitar.
It was a nice touch that made this song shine in the middle of what has been an incredibly eventful series.
Taku Yashiro, Daiki Hamano, Kouhei Amasaki, and Yutaka Baletta represent Thailand on the vocal end. This quartet shone with their sweet melodies and harmonies in both songs. Interestingly enough, Yashiro (high-register), Baletta and Amasaki (mid-register), and Hamano (low-register) cover a whole lot of range and their different tones blended well together.
As a whole, Thailand is an entry that is considered one of the sweetest but also well-deserved intermission in this eventful WORLD TRE@SURE series.
