Track analysis:

1 – Unmei no Pendulum

The sound of a ticking clock sets the tone for this epic song. Dramatic strings, powerful timpani and delicate piano melodies easily make this song stand out. Stripped down from most elements commonly found in their baroque music, Unmei no Pendulum is still a powerful song in which epic progressions, haunting backing vocals and the minimalistic instrumental are enough to grab the listener’s attention.

But the cherry on top is Growth‘s vocals. Their harmonizations make chills run down the spine; the falsetto by Toki, the vibrato by Terashima, those haunting high notes by Yamashita and the emotion on Yoshitaka’s vocals make this song a unique and haunting auditory experience.

From the little details in the instrumental to the bigger picture with the epic soundscape or their haunting harmonies and breathtaking solo parts, Growth managed to make Unmei no Pendulum a memorable song.

Playing around with their trademark baroque pop sound, stripping it down to a softer, quieter take on the genre was quite ingenious. To add to this, the vocals are a delight to listen to. Unmei no Pendulum explored the time theme in haunting fashion, impressing beyond words.

Final rating:5 stars
