A special panel on the popular smartphone game, Utano☆Princesama Shining Live, was held on September 23 at Tokyo Game Show 2018 (TGS2018) featuring the voice of Otoya Ittoki, Takuma Terashima. THTFHQ brings you an exclusive report on this panel.
Utano☆Princesama Shining Live is a free-to-play smartphone rhythm game based on the popular male idol franchise, Utano☆Princesama. The game is a collaboration between Broccoli and KLabGames. The game has over 4 million downloads and proved itself as one of the best rhythm games in the market.
During TGS2018, Utano☆Princesama Shining Live held a special 1st Anniversary panel with Takuma Terashima. The panel was held on September 23 at 3pm JST and broadcasted worldwide.
Takuma Terashima joined the panel’s MC Kenichi Ono and voiced his nervousness, especially after the hearing crowd’s warm welcome. He then went ahead to greet the crowd, as well as those watching overseas, with brief greetings in English and Chinese. Upon being asked if he plays the game, he mentioned that he has been playing it whenever possible, however at his pace.
The first corner was titled “Shining Live On Stage”. Terashima said that he didn’t get Otoya’s Shining Romance card and regretted it because he was looking forward to the fully voiced side story. After a quick crowd survey, there were several people that, just like him, didn’t get the card. The MC then announced that Terashima was going to live read a part of the story for them, to which he mentioned that it was going to be a unique experience for everyone as he seldom gets to say Otoya’s lines on stage.
Then he showcased his skills, challenging himself by playing ST☆RISH’s “Shining ☆ Romance” on Pro difficulty. Despite getting an S on that song, he was unsatisfied with the result, that’s when the MC suggested that he’d play another song, this time Otoya Ittoki’s. As a reward for hitting a combo, he asked for prisms.
Terashima played Otoya Ittoki’s “Trust ☆ My Dream” on Pro difficulty, a song released in 2009 as part of the “Utano☆Princesama Audition Song 1” CD.
He impressed both the MC and crowd by getting a 455 notes combo and players have since been rewarded with 4 days of 11 free photo shoots.
The second corner of the event was a look back on the history of Shining Live. Since its release, over 300 photos were added to the game and a few selected from previous events were shown on this panel.
Terashima mentioned that if the event will get him an Otoya card, he’ll most likely play it to get it. In several occasions he was even part of the elite top 5% of players that got a special photo, impressing once again the crowd.
The panel smoothly progressed to a brief talk about the game’s songs. Utano☆Princesama Shining Live currently has an impressive lineup of 89 songs. According to the game’s data, the top 5 most played songs in the Japanese version of the game are:
- Rainbow ☆ Dream (played 16.724.808 times)
- Gamushara Roman☆Tic (played 16.008.933 times)
- QUARTET ★ NIGHT (played 14.911.712 times)
- Force Live (played 13.247.635 times)
- Welcome to Uta☆Pri World!! (played 12.758.293 times)
As for the most played Otoya songs the top 3 included:
- Trust ☆ My Dream
- Nijiiro ☆ Over Drive!
- Brand New Melody
The fourth corner was titled “Let me hear, Ittoki-kun”. This was a special live reading corner in which Terashima read several of Otoya’s lines in Utano☆Princesama Shining Live (fan voted in a poll ran on the game’s official Japanese Twitter account).
The special panel wrapped up with an information corner. Details on the in-game photo shoot “The Mysterious Remains”, a special TGS2018 login bonus, a new background available for purchase in the medal shop, and the last “My Only Prince” photo shoot were unveiled.
As for the new information: it was announced that there would be a new event “Shining Solo Series: Syo”, Ranmaru’s birthday photo shoot (that features all cards released up until early Spring 2018), and a new photo shoot “Secret Halloween Nightmare.”

After taking a picture with the crowd and thanking everyone, Takuma Terashima left the stage and the panel wrapped up.
