Most popular male seiyuu in 2018, here’s the top 20 according to Charapedia’s users

It’s that time of the year for Charapedia. The popular anime and poll website returns with their annual poll “Most Popular Seiyuu” and the results are far from surprising in the men’s category.

As per usual, Charapedia asked their users the simple question “Who is currently your favorite voice actor?“. During its run from March 15 to April 4, 2018, the poll received 10.000 votes. The results were posted on 12/04/2018 on their official website. A reminder that this poll only features male seiyuu.

Without further ado, these are the results:

  1. Hiroshi Kamiya (986 votes)
  2. Yuki Kaji (855 votes)
  3. Yuichi Nakamura (672 votes)
  4. Tomokazu Sugita (655 votes)
  5. Mamoru Miyano (569 votes)
  6. Daisuke Ono (556 votes)
  7. Yoshitsugu Matsuoka (508 votes)
  8. Takahiro Sakurai (485 votes)
  9. Jun Fukuyama (469 votes)
  10. Yuichiro Umehara (359 votes)
  11. Akira Ishida (320 votes)
  12. Nobuhiko Okamoto (310 votes)
  13. Yoshimasa Hosoya (307 votes)
  14. Soma Saito (306 votes)
  15. Hiro Shimono (290 votes)
  16. Kenichi Suzumura (282 votes)
  17. Ryohei Kimura (254 votes)
  18. Tatsuhisa Suzuki (246 votes)
  19. Junichi Suwabe (223 votes)
  20. Shouta Aoi (204 votes)

Although the results feature the usual suspects in the top 3 places, Japanese fans are already showing a lot of love to the new generation of seiyuu – born in the 90’s –  with Yuichiro Umehara (born in 1991) surprising everyone with his top 10 entrance, and Soma Saito (born in 1991) making an appearance at #14. Akira Ishida (born in 1967) is the only old-school seiyuu featured on this poll and unexpectedly, Tatsuhisa Suzuki‘s popularity among anime fans has decreased a lot (as opposed to his popularity as a musician). Hiroshi Kamiya continues his supreme reign as the most popular seiyuu in Japan.

An interesting fact, out of the 20 seiyuu featured on this top, 15 have careers in the music business (solo, band, 2.5D units, seiyuu unit), an important factor that nowadays contributes a lot for a seiyuu’s popularity.

Vote turnout:

A total of 10.000 voters, with 40,1% belonging to men, 59,9% to women. Votes from teenagers + people in their twenties was 62,4%. Votes from people over 30’s were 37,6%.
