Christmas is almost here. As a response to the list feature released a couple of days ago, you’ve came up with awesome suggestions and thus, round 2 of the Christmas songs list feature was born.
Earlier this month, The Hand That Feeds HQ released its very first Christmas-themed list feature, 12 Heartwarming Christmas songs by Male Seiyuu.
It was filled with great Christmas and Holiday-themed songs meant to warm you up during this season and, at the same time, make some unknown songs and gems by your favorite male seiyuu and 2D music projects known.
I wasn’t expecting that the feature in question was going to be as loved as it did. And thus, some of you left on THTFHQ’s YouTube channel, Facebook page, and here on the website, your suggestions of other awesome Christmas-themed songs.
Who knew there were these many?
Out of all the submissions, I picked 10 songs that I feel don’t get much love as well as a couple of recent releases that went under the radar of many seiyuu fans.
These picks are all yours. This is your list. Hope you enjoy it!
And if you have more suggestions, fire those away in the comments section.
A note that these songs are in no specific order.
Your reply is here. Here’s a list of “10 Christmas songs by male seiyuu as suggested by our readers”.
MEZZO “Tsukiakari Illuminate“
MEZZO gets yet another feature on a Christmas list of ours.
The talented duo has plenty of beautiful ballads and songs that are enveloped in a Holiday/Christmas vibe that is impossible to not notice.
That’s the case of Tsukiakari Illuminate (月明かりイルミネイト), a song released in 2017, included in MEZZO’s single, Dear Butterfly.
This is a sweet, gentle, and slow-paced song in which Atsushi Abe and KENN’s vocals shine, irradiating a warmth that puts the listener in a comfortable and gentle soundscape.
Tsukiakari Illuminate is a fan favorite as well as must check song when it comes to good, slow-paced ballads that channel Christmas vibes.
Yumeiro Cast “Saigo no Lonely Christmas“
Also in 2017, the Yumeiro Cast franchise released a special Christmas-themed single.
Yumeiro Cast “Seiya no Love Letter” Song Collection: Saigo no Lonely Christmas hit stores in November 2017 and with it came what is one of the most beautiful and heartbreaking Christmas ballads, “Saigo no Lonely Christmas“.
The single included 7 versions of the song, each version performed by a different member of Yumeiro Company – Ryota Osaka, Natsuki Hanae, Toshiyuki Toyonaga, Yuto Uemura, Yuu Hayashi, Yuki Ono, Tasuku Hatanaka – and the results were pretty much impressive.
Each seiyuu gave their unique touch to the performance, with ones being more emotional, others softer, others tear-inducing, all great performances.
The songs are, unfortunately, not available on streaming platforms but if you have the chance to scour the web in search of a snippet of the song, please do it. It is worth the hassle of searching for it.
Yet another reminder of why Yumeiro Cast was such an amazing franchise.
Kensho ono “Snow Light“
Kensho Ono finds his way to this feature with a great addition in “Snow Light“.
Although Ono’s repertoire is filled with rock – with some EDM ventures – there is a beautiful ballad in his repertoire. It’s this track.
This is a delicate song in which delicate strings and hopeful piano melodies paint a beautiful, snow-covered soundscape.
This is a really sweet and gentle track that perfectly encompasses the spirit of the season, with Kensho Ono pledging himself to protect and be there for the listener.
A gem of a track that didn’t get much love when COLORS was released but certainly a song deserving of all the love and attention you have to give it.
IDOLiSH7 “Hatsukoi Rhythm“
Earlier in 2020, IDOLiSH7 released Mr.AFFECTiON, a single in which the talented group showcased their improved vocals and matured sound.
However, the star of the release was, undoubtedly, Hatsukoi Rhythm.
Hatsukoi Rhythm is a beautiful ballad, a perfect mix of polished, harmonious vocals by the members of IDOLiSH7 and a sweet, gentle, and matured sound in the instrumental.
The soundscape is that of IDOLiSH7 serenading the listener as street lights illuminate them and snow falls. Truly mesmerizing.
Takahiro Sakurai “When You Wish Upon a Star“
Takahiro Sakurai never had a solo career in the music industry but he sure has the vocal chops to deliver awesome performances.
Unfortunately, there aren’t many songs of Sakurai’s that his fans can listen to so when Disney Date- Koe no Ouji sama -Standard was released in 2012, fans were ecstatic.
Sakurai was going to cover the wildly popular and beautiful song from the Pinocchio movie, “When You Wish Upon a Star” in Japanese.
And, indeed, Sakurai dazzled with his growly, vibrato-filled vocals. The slow-paced jazz instrumental and delicate piano create the perfect Christmas/Holiday soundscape for the listeners to lose themselves in.
Awesome rendition of a classic with sweet vocals that you can rarely listen to. A true gem of a track.
Branco “Sweet Sweet White Song”
This year, Branco, Ensemble Stars!!’s shuffle group consisting of Tori Himemiya (CV: Ayumu Murase), Aira Shiratori (CV: Kouhei Amasaki), Shino Hajime (CV: Tomoya Kousaka), and Sora Harukawa (CV: Kazutomi Yamamoto), released the Christmas-themed song, “Sweet Sweet White Song“.
This is a cutesy Christmas-themed song that features a jolly vibe and, in comparison to many of the songs on this list, is one of the most upbeat and bright takes on Christmas music.
Certainly worth checking out.
Fine “Holy Angel’s Carol”
In 2019, fine, unit part of the Ensemble Stars!! franchise counting with Hikaru Midorikawa, Takuya Eguchi, Ayumu Murase, Kotaro Hashimoto on vocals, released their own Christmas-themed song.
Holy Angel’s Carol is a grandiose song, much in the group’s style, but still packing that gentleness and jolly spirit of the season with it.
Hiroshi Kamiya “Snowflake wonderland“
Hiroshi Kamiya makes his way into this list with a Christmas song that went unnoticed by many.
“Snowflake wonderland” was included in Danger Heaven?, a single released in 2016.
The song is a textbook Christmas-themed song that will instantly put you in the holiday mood. It is gentle and sweet, giving off warm vibes that envelop the listener.
Unfortunately, Kiramune’s artists still don’t have their music available on streaming platforms thus, the best option to get a proper listen to this song can only be done after scouring the web.
Bunta Marui (CV: Takahashi Naozumi) “Boku wa Bunta Claus”
The Prince of Tennis franchise is no stranger to Christmas songs. And with so many good ones to choose from, I went with Bunta Marui‘s.
In 2014, a series of Christmas singles were released, and out of those Bunta Marui’s was the one that stood out the most for me.
ボクはブン太クロース (Boku wa Bunta Claus) is a fun, jolly song befitting of the season. Add to it Naozumi’s smooth vocals and those shredding guitar riffs and you have a must-listen of a track, especially if you’re big on rock versions of Christmas songs.
Straw Hat Pirates “Utae! Jingle Bell“
This one is a throwback entry, dating back to 2004. Also this is not really a song strictly performed by male seiyuu but more of a mixed group.
The One Piece franchise released a Christmas-themed album in that year counting with a pretty groovy and upbeat take on a Christmas song in “Utae! Jingle Bell“.
The song is performed by Straw Hat Pirates – Mayumi Tanaka, Kazuya Nakai, Akemi Okamura, Kappei Yamaguchi, Hiroaki Hirata, Ikue Otani, Yuriko Yamaguchi, Kazuki Yao, and Cho.
Even if it now sounds a bit dated – especially the synths -, this is still a pretty good Christmas-themed song worth checking out.
These were 10 out of the various suggestions you’ve given. Many thanks to everyone that took a bit of their time to share their favorites. You’re welcome to keep on pitching in more suggestions.
At the same time, this month THTFHQ created a playlist on Spotify featuring a lot of sweet, warm Christmas-themed songs. I invite you to check it out.
